Joint Operations

PostAuthor: Unifying Force » Tue Jun 30, 2015 1:46 am

The battle group hung there in space, just outside the Kushibah system, Gordian Reach sector of the Outer Rim Territories. It's star could be seen, a larger dot of light amidst the endless field of stars that could be seen through the view port of the Ardent-class frigate that Nibo's squadron had been brought aboard. Very little had been said, the entire thing smacking of an off the books operation the moment Nibo had received orders to transfer his squadron but only giving a set of coordinates rather than a vessel name. Having a mixed group of ships, roughly strike force strength, appear in the middle of nowhere to pick his squadron up just put icing on that proverbial cake.

Two Ardent-class fast frigates, an MC140 Scyth-class main battle cruiser, two ShaShore-class frigates, and a half dozen Nemesis-class patrol ships floated in the void while Nibo was led through the vessel (named the Irongstar) and into a conference room. He wasn't the first to arrive. Within the room stood two severe-looking human women, two human males who couldn't have appeared more different from one another despite similar colorations, and a young woman of some species that lacked hair but made up for it with refined features set in bluish colors standing behind one of the two human males.

One of the human women wore an Imperial Army Officer's uniform with the Commander insignia on it, the other human female wore a Galactic Alliance pilot's jump suit without her rank immediately evident. On one side of the table that dominated the space stood what was blatantly an Imperial Knight, while the other human sat in a chair on the opposite side of the table (with his boots propped up on its surface) wearing a half smile and black robes over dark green and black clothing of simple make. The half-smiling human had the blue skinned female (no hair, so not a Chiss) standing behind him wearing a brown robe that her folded arms kept closed enough to prevent the rest of her clothing from being seen readily.

The Imperial Officer glanced up at him and spoke. "Excellent, we're all here. Everyone take a seat. This will take more than a few minutes." The Imperial Officer, herself, didn't follow her own invitation. She remained standing at the head of the table, folding her hands behind her in what any Imperial military member would recognize as the universal sign of the person immediately in control. "I am Commander Jaig, of her Majesty's 1st Imperial Stormtrooper Legion. I have been assigned to... manage... the endeavors that this group will be undertaking. We have all been brought together as a joint task force with the express goal of making inroads toward an eventual invasion of Sith Space. With that goal in mind, this group has been hand picked. So, let us get introductions out of the way."

The woman in the Galactic Alliance pilot jumpsuit took her seat and, when it came her turn to speak, cleared her throat before doing so. Her voice was rough, scratchy even, in a way that suggested that some of the scars on her face were the least of the injuries she'd taken from whatever had caused them in the first place. "I am Lieutenant Jadsiah Forge, I command Wraith Squadron for the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances." Wraith Squadron was, in its own way, a bit of a legend. A mix of fighter pilots and special operations formats, each member having a specialty that fit well with all manner of mission profiles both behind the stick and on the ground.

She glanced around, the sharp eyed look of target acquisition on her face and a hardness that came with having risen through the ranks rather than having joined through the officer candidate school.

The man who had been sitting the entire time, grinning at the Imperial Knight, suddenly decided the Wraith Squadron leader was more interesting. Or at least the fact that he suddenly looked at her with open interest suggest as much. "Wraith Squadron... that says a great deal about what we'll be doing doesn't it." He never lost his grin but he did make a gesture with his hand, indicating the blue skinned female should take a seat as had been suggested. "I am Kaziki Halcyon, Jedi Knight, and this is my apprentice, Pokere Nacht. We were asked to participate by a member of the High Council, due to my experience a wide variety of fields that I suddenly see will be quite valuable."

He tilted his head, as something else came to him. "Also, if you're going to pick a fight with the Sith, you're going to need all the help you can get to prevent being predicted through the Force. I can help with that." His accent was crisp but casual. Core worlds, definitely, and combined with his general disposition... yup, Corellian.

Pokere Nacht moved to take the seat next to her master at his gesture and not a moment before. She smiled at everyone, giving a little wave, and then sat quietly, properly, and upright. A stark contrast to her master's casual and irreverent pose. When he was done speaking she turned to look at Nibo, along with everybody else as the introductions had gone around the table counter clockwise to have finally arrived on his turn.

I must be moving up in the galaxy, Nibo thought to himself as he saw the illustrious company assembled in the briefing room. Even though Nibo wasn't Force sensitive, he imagined that he could feel the power that the Jedi and Imperial Knight were surely emanating in the Force. This was no simple exercise or run of the mill mission. It was the kind that either got you killed or promoted, he mused to himself as he scanned the room.

The Imperial Officer glanced up at him and spoke. "Excellent, we're all here. Everyone take a seat. This will take more than a few minutes."

"Yes, ma'am," Nibo replied, simply and with proper military courtesy. He spotted an open seat and took it.

Once he was comfortably seated, he pulled out his half-chewed cigar and savored the taste, without lighting it of course, as the introductions were made.

When he was done speaking she turned to look at Nibo, along with everybody else as the introductions had gone around the table counter clockwise to have finally arrived on his turn.

Nibo took the cigar out of his mouth and made eye contact with the Jedi's apprentice. For he brief moment he tried to figure out what species she was before turning his attention back to the briefing. This was the first time he was called up to work directly with an Imperial Knight, or Jedi for that matter.

"I'm Pilot Officer LeoRo. My squadron was based on the Animus . While my squadron doesn't have as deep of a history as Wraith Squadron," he glanced at Lieutenant Forge, "...we did see action in the last major battle against the Sith over Coruscant. Since then things have been relatively quiet," he paused and looked over the eclectic group, "Until now..."

"Things are still quiet, that's the problem." The Imperial Knight pronounced as the introductions came to him. "Knight Master Antares Draco... yes, that Antares Draco." The man who had once led the Imperial Knights but, for no reason ever given publicly, no longer did so. In fact, within the Imperial military it was rumored that he was very much out of favor with the throne. He had taken a seat opposite the Jedi but appeared to be doing his best not to look at them, confirming to knowledgeable eyes that he was indeed personally acquainted with the grinning Corellian across from him.

And didn't like him.

"Please, continue with your briefing Commander." It was said evenly, but Antares just wanted the briefing to be over so they could start working.

"Yes..." Jaig looked around the room for a long moment before continuing as suggested. "As Sir Draco said, the issue is the lack of activity from the Sith since their defeat at Coruscant. They were handily driven across the galaxy and into their own traditional home space but have stood fast there. The rest of the galaxy, either needing to be secured or having to be re-evaluated..." Jaig once again paused, looking to the Corellian in the room, since his home sector had been one of the first to declare indepenence -and- had been the major driving force behind the Unaligned Systems treaties.

"Suffice it to say, no one has been in a position to investigate or inclined to enter into another war even if they do have the firepower to make a go of it. Not even the Empire has the free vessels to prosecute a military endeavor against the Stygian Caldera. The Sith have Imperial military vessels, apparently enough infrastructure to repair the ones that were damaged but successful in fleeing there, Imperial military personnel with no honor but all the top notch training and resources the Empire could give them. What the Sith lack, however, is a very key issue for them."

She turned, clicking a button on a small remote she'd been holding comfortably in the palm of her hand the entire time. A series of images popped up in the air behind her, stock images of the three major ship yards followed by the dozens of minor ones in the galaxy. "They do not have the ability to build more. They have managed open space repairs, have some minor dry docks planet-side, but the Sith do not have the ability to turn raw materials into finished vessels. If they managed to take any mobile docks we aren't seeing the results of it. But that's another matter for our attention."

She turned to the group and hit another button, a star map of the Stygian Caldera appeared over the table. "We have been gathered hear for a variety of reasons, but only one purpose. To search out, find, and eliminate Sith shipyards and other targets of opportunity. We are to undermine the Sith Empire's ability to field a full naval force. Are you in?" Jaig looked at them through the holographic map.

"I'm afraid I have orders, so what I think of this is immaterial. However, Wraith Squadron lives for this sort of thing and if it blacks a couple of Sith eyes we're just going to take that as a bonus." Lt. Forge smiled and looked at the group. "For those who don't know the details, Wraith Squadron is a specialty unit that specializes in not being specialized. We handle covert operations, sabotage, and complicated endeavors that require a very -wide- breadth of skills. I, myself, am a heavy weapons specialist and long range marksmen."

She hooked a thumb in the general direction of the MC140 seen through the view port. "The rest of the team covers everything else... though I'm a warm body short for a few weeks while her... court marshal is meandered through. My people have strict orders not to date above the rank of captain now, so that shouldn't be a problem going forward." Forge gave a reassuring nod to the Commander.

Halcyon watched Forge while she spoke, with that sort of intensity that suggested he was using the singular talent that Jedi were known for. The Force. For what reason and to what end was anyone's guess. "You're missing your 'Face'. That must be where I come in. That, and Sith, being my specialty makes this an ideal match." Kaz pressed his fingers together in a steeple shape as he seemed to consider the situation.

"I, however, had a great many pokers in the fire prior to getting this invitation and suffer under no authority capable of obliging me to this endeavor..." He pursed his lips for a long moment before shrugging. "But why not? Since the Empress is asking me personally and I'm so very fond of her, I'm in. My apprentice will, of course, be glad for the experience. Nothing like crossing blades with the Sith in their place of strength to give one a finer appreciation of lightsaber technique." He smiled.

Pokere looked amused at her master's behavior, though that quickly turned to very real consideration as she realized the foes she and her master would be facing personally, by dent of their skills and training. The Sith, in their home territory. Blade to blade, face to face, without tactical overwhelm or retreat truly being a viable possibility much of the time. She put on a face of grim determination. "We will not fail you."
