K'Kruhk echoed Eanin's sentiment regarding the Corellian Jedi, and a moment of silence passed between them. As it did, the Farghul could feel his mind wanting to veer off, to begin working on the question of the Corellian Jedi. For now, though, he knew it was not his assignment, and quieted his thoughts instead. "It may be worthwhile, in time, to have someone investigate the matter." he considered, remembering accounts of matters prior to the clone wars. Then, again, strange occurrences that had required investigation had been allowed to fall to the wayside.

It was disconcerting how ingrained some of his ideas were about the Jedi. "Even now, I stand here and doubt that we shall face such a destructive episode again soon. And yet, simultaneously, I realise that it is a naive thought that can be used against us." He remarked. The Jedi could not afford to think that they were safe from threat, internal or external, and best had a better plan to deal with it than waiting for these threats to reveal themselves.

Eanin continued to listen, and was gladdened to finally hear a name he knew. Although he didn't know Master Jinsun on a personal level, she was a familiar figure from before the Purge. "Perhaps seeking Master Jinsun's council would be worthwhile, though I doubt that it will be in time for my present assignment." he answered to the suggestion.

'...if you can set her back on the proper path.'

It seemed, in that statement, that a good deal of Eanin's true purpose in this assignment came to light. The missing Jedi and the attack on the colony was of concern, and involving Bastion was a potential complication, but that wasn't the sole reason that the Farghul was needed. It seemed that the Jedi Council, in their haste and desperation to respond to the call for assistance, made a dangerous gamble in pairing Halcyon and Nuhok.

"Then I will review her file as well. Hopefully this matter with the Devaronian colony can be resolved quickly. It appears that both these Knights can benefit from some time spent within the Jedi fold." 'And it appears that matters here could do with the influence of another level-headed Jedi as well.' he thought.

"What of the missing Jedi Knight? Is he more experienced, or another new Jedi? You also spoke of a light warship. An item of the Antarian Rangers I suppose? How do they fit into this?"

"I agree but the appropriate avenue hasn't presented itself yet. Do keep your eyes open for it, though. When the moment is right the blow must be struck, so to speak. This potential organization is one of the most difficult to learn about, secretive and based on a cultural loyalty as it apparently is." K'kruhk actually had a fuller image of how that task would be approached than he let on but right then wasn't the time and he wasn't entirely certain Eanin would be one of the people in on that project. Eanin was practically a stranger, albeit one entitled to a great deal of trust on face value alone.

K'kruhk nodded sagely at the next comment from the other Jedi Master. "And this is exactly the time when we mustn't aggravate what isn't truly a problem. A move without knowledge could very well create the very thing we wish to prevent. At the very least, if there is a division, we don't want to advertise it to the rest of the galaxy until we can do something about the matter. Even allies might take advantage considering the current climate. The less complicated we can keep it all the easier it can be put into our past and laughed about one day in conversation."

"The Master is due back soon, though since her task was a political one the timing is up to when she feels confident the situation can move forward without her presence. As soon as she reports she will be informed of your need, and she will contact you immediately." He held out his hands in a placating gesture. "In the mean time I can offer a few tidbits but chances are they'll just raise more questions. The facts, as I know them, consist of little more than that Knight Halcyon is estimated to be an extremely proficient adherent of Makashi. His is recorded to have defeated three members of the One Sith in lightsaber duels, start to finish, though the only one we can verify beyond the word of his parents is the most recent that happened on Kowak. Defeated and captured, in fact, one of their combat instructors."

Interestingly, there was some supposition that the man captured might one day be a source of information himself. His medical situation was still developing but he had expressed a deep shattering of his self-perception after the defeat, as if losing to someone he thought so lowly of had completely abused several fundamental beliefs. There was no way to know if it would stick but Master Tiki had been spending a fair amount of time merely speaking with the man in the hopes of guiding him to, if nothing else, a less damaging world view before he had to be permanently relocated. If the man proved willing to give information there was a very good chance that a greater insight could be gained regarding Knight Halcyon.

"I sincerely hope so but... the Force says there is more to this situation than a mere animal attack. Something greater, more sinister, but for some reason none of the High Council have been able to get a read on it beyond that inkling. The Jedi Knight who contacted us has held the rank since before the beginning of the Second Imperial Civil War. Reliable, contented with dealing with small scale matters such as pirates, labor disputes, and the like. He is notable for being prone to resolving multiple issues by stringing a single, multifaceted solution through them all like a virtual bead necklace. Responded to a request from Devaron, regarding a complaint about a ship in the colony's system that was lingering at the far reaches of it's sensor network and being non-responsive to all attempts at communication. The vessel was notable for being of no recognizable configuration."

"Until we got the emergency message from him, that was the last we had heard about the matter. We sent the first two available Jedi we could muster, chance made it Halcyon and Nuhok. Halcyon unexpectedly, though perhaps wisely, called in the Antarian Rangers to assist Nuhok and himself in the matter. The vessel they responded with, as best I can get out of their leadership, is a former medium freighter that has been converted to be somewhere in the realm of a military corvette in terms of defensive and offensive capabilities. I suspect the reasoning was just in case the vessel in question was scouting for one of those pirate raids that occasionally strike new colonies for their bulk of imported resources."

Eanin took in the Grand Master's words with a neutral expression. The question of the Corellian Jedi was both broad and deep, and one he hadn't forced himself to consider for many years. He didn't believe the answer would come easily. In fact, he had a deep suspicion that answering that question would Force the Order to answer several other, even deeper questions, one's about their very own nature.

The Grand Master's answer was cause for thought. To some extent, he agreed. The position of the Jedi was precarious and difficult. Yet, Eanin was puzzled by the K'Kruhk's remark that it wasn't truly a problem. He would need to consider the matter deeply, but was fearful that dismissing the issue for the sake of ease could allow it to fester and to become a significant trouble in the future. "Very well. However, my concern is aimed outward. The destructive episode I fear is not a division, but rather another purge."

"The Sith have always known more than given them credit. I know the One Sith are an order much unlike any previously known, but they have already brought a great deal of destruction upon is. If they were to learn of, and then drive a wedge into this division..."

The conversation moved from the philosophical to more practical matters after that, and the Farghul Jedi thought it best it continue to do so. He already had much to think of, probably more than was his station to be concerned with. Although he knew that he had been called from hiding for good reason and with purpose, he also knew that the nature of that purpose was still a mystery to him. He would need to strive to understand what it was he was meant to do before he attempted to address the greater issues facing the Jedi Order.

"Thank you, Grand Master." Eanin answered regarding Master Jinsun's return. He listened attentively as the Whiphid spoke further regarding Halcyon. "He has achieved much, for one still so young. Quite talented, it would seem. Eanin replied. He had a great deal of respect for practitioners of Makashi, both because he knew the degree of technical proficiency required by the art, and the dedication required to learn it. Many years prior, he had realised that he would never be a fencer of the degree capable of learning such a demanding lightsaber style. "And his use of Dun Möch? Was this the first report of him using the technique?"

Further, Eanin listened intently as the Grand Master spoke of his reservations regarding the situation with the colony. He nodded at the remark, neither approvingly or disapprovingly, but rather in perfect acceptance that there was often something greater being kept from view. It would be beneficial to be able to get a full report from Halcyon and Nuhok.

The Knight that had been sent to deal with the original issue sounded somewhat reliable, a man capable of keeping an eye on the bigger picture. Someone who was reliable, even if not exceptional. Despite the galaxy at large having little appreciation for it, Eanin believed a great deal of good could come from a reliable Jedi Knight.

"What is our relationship with regard to the Antarian Rangers? You say it was Knight Halcyon, not the council, who called on their aid?" Eanin knew that Grand Master Skywalker had been instrumental in re-establishing the Rangers, yet even after this the relationship between the Order and the Rangers remained ill-defined. From the perspective of the Jedi, at least.

K'kruhk nodded sagely at Eanin's aim of concern. The Grand Master felt much the same way, which was why he didn't wish to pursue the matter of a schism at the moment. He had yet to be forced to the matter, it remained a concern rather than an overt problem, and pursuing it could very well make a suspicion into a reality while their ancient enemies yet had the strength to take advantage of it. If their numbers were divided when the Sith moved the Jedi could be very well lost. That matter, if it truly existed beyond K'kruhk's perceptions at all, would have to wait a time. Not that it wouldn't be watched carefully throughout. "Your perceptions on that matter during this assignment will be invaluable, young Knight Halcyon's reaction to your arrival and assuming lead might say much for both of our concerns. All we can do is be patient."

Once more, K'kruhk inclined his head, that time at being thanked. It was the least he could do to ensure that Master Eanin received all possible intelligence as soon as it could be provided. Eanin went on to comment on Kaz's accomplishments. "I agree, he has incredible promise. Particularly with that blade of his and his family's natural talents... but talent has the unfortunate tendency to breed arrogance. I met Master Dooku, I still recall Anakin Skywalker. Pride goeth before the fall, to paraphrase an old saying." K'kruhk wished the present conversation were happening at the old Coruscant Temple, the two masters strolling down the mezzanine as they handled the business of the Order.

"The first report the Order at large is aware of, at least. He didn't even deny the accusation, just watched us all and asked if talking to one's opponent was forbidden." K'kruhk sighed. "To be fair, Master Jinsun admitted to having strong armed Knight Halcyon into the encounter, thinking to make a point to her students regarding no style being indomitable." The point had been made, just not by the instructor. Knight Halcyon had poked at Jinsun's words, turning the lesson into a matter of embarrassment and then preying on a stray thought that had come up regarding the Master's past. Jinsun had lost focus, her strikes became just a hair more desperate, and the Makashi practitioner had capitalized. End of story, aside from Jinsun's personal embarrassment before her students' very eyes.

"There is no relationship between the Jedi Order and the Antarian Rangers. Some Jedi associate with them, particularly the Halcyon family, but the Order... 'frowns'... on the practice. The Ruusan Reformation forbids the Jedi from maintaining any private military force separate from their own Jedi Knights, and that's exactly what even an informal relationship with the Antarian Rangers would represent. We do not carry blasters, keeping close allies or subordinates who do so on our behalf would be exactly the same thing." They were a useful group, even K'kruhk had to admit that, but they were a resource the Jedi simply couldn't use.

Eanin assented to do as the Grand Master asked. Already, he could see that the assignment would need to be handled carefully. The Grand Master was certainly correct, though. How Halcyon reacted to Eanin's arrival would tell them a great deal.

The Farghul listened as the elder Jedi Master spoke of past experiences. K-Kruhk had lived through much, and had in fact garnered a reputation for precisely that. And there had been even more than the Jedi Master mentioned. Although Eanin didn't know all the details, A'Sharad Hett had also started as a Jedi. Eanin wasn't sure whether there had been pride involved in his turning, however.

Pride was difficult to manage, most often because of the conflicting views held about it. Many, including Eanin, believed that self-confidence was required of every being. Yet self-confidence was a very narrow band between humility and arrogance, and many often vacillated between the states. Ultimately, Eanin would need to be careful about his observations of Halcyon if anything constructive was to come of the matter.

"And Nuhok? Where do her talents lie?" Eanin asked in response. He would need to be mindful when confronted by the expansive personality of Halcyon next to that of Nuhok not to lose sight of her.

The Grand Master's further report regarding the encounter between Jinsun and Halcyon didn't sit well with Eanin on any front. He would definitely need to speak to her at some point. He let the matter rest for the time being, though, not believing that much more could be gained from discussing the matter with anyone not involved.

The Farghul hadn't heard anyone speak of Ruusan in many years, but recalled the events surrounding it as well as almost all Jedi would. There had been great significance to the events surrounding those wars, and despite everything that had happened since, the history involved was still prevalent in many teachings. Eanin was a little concerned at the Grand Master's choice of words, though. [color=orange'...private military force separate from their own Jedi Knights.[/color] He hoped that it had only been a poor selection of words that had made it sound like the Grand Master was referring to the Jedi Knights as a military force.

"As I understood it, the Rangers' very existence is in relation to the Jedi Order. Even though we do not approve association with them, we must certainly remain cautious to the effects the dealings of individual Jedi with the Rangers might have."

"Nuhok is a unique one herself in a way. She has gone down a path not unheard of but rare outside of Ithorian Jedi in that she has developed a natural talent for creatures and plants into a very real skill. Plant Surge, communicating with and controlling animals... she has the kind of focus that stands to assist the Jedi Order greatly in her ability to alter entire battlefields. If the Sith, or any other group that feels it would benefit from our prolonged absence from the galaxy, were to attempt a massed attack against us her abilities would put her in high regard. When she has a touch more experience as a Knight we can assign her to GA tactical units going into the field, where she can make the field another asset to the missions. We can clean out Spice operations, slavers, ground based pirates... the possibilities are endless and the benefits to the galaxy innumerable."

K'kruhk smiled to himself a little in embarrassment. "Not to gush, of course, but she is one of our most promising since the end of the Purge. Her master gave glowing reviews of her progress, both in the Force and personally. She has the opportunity to go far and, fate willing, perhaps even join us on the High Council one day." She was, as of the most recent reliable reports, a traditionalist just like her master. The Order had too few who put it above the more immediately viewable concerns present in the field. Kura's abilities made her an asset on such a scale that she was almost beyond the duties of a normal Jedi Knight in the Grand Master's point of view. The Force blessed the Jedi with so few far reaching powers that were also physically imminent.

As for the Antarian Ranges. "The Antarian Rangers were started by a man with too much money and business acumen who was greatly impressed by our service to the galaxy. His heart was in the right place and there was a place for the child of that heart for a time. The idea was a heart warming one and their sheer existence doesn't violate the Rusaan Reformation, but if we were to condone it as Masters it would only take one politician with an agenda to turn it into a private army in the eyes of the public. It's bad enough that we have so hard a time keeping ourselves perceived as something more akin to a police force when we don't even really have the authority to be that except for certain legal precedents." The Grand Master turned to look out at the tent city that surrounded the ruins of the Temple. "We are barely in a position to run herd on ourselves. Tracking an independent paramilitary force is simply beyond us at the moment."
