Auren had been at The Wheel for a few days now, bumming around, making some contacts, generally just kicking back. Sure, so it wasn't the most luxurious of places to have a layover, but it suited her. No-one questioned her comings and going, and no-one really took any notice of the lone blonde spacer sat at various bars, or placing a bet on a fistfight, or trying to join a crew. If she'd wanted to, she could have left The Wheel the day after her arrival, but, for now, it suited her to take a few days' downtime.

Her hangover from the night before was subsiding, and now would probably be a good time for breakfast... well, lunch. Okay, closer to dinner. Sleeping the day away was something she hadn't done for a long time: damn that Ithorian Mist.

There was a small, quiet diner she had in mind, somewhere she could treat her hangover in peace, and then maybe begin to make plans to get off The Wheel and back onto a crew... something more permanent, this time. She could use the stability again, if she were honest with herself, and that meant trying to make connections with people she could trust, rather than the fly-by-nights who wanted her for their more dangerous runs.

Her mind elsewhere, she walked slap bang into someone else. She hadn't seen him, certainly, but it never hurt to slap blame on someone else. "Hey, you ass, watch where you're going!"

The Wheel: basically a city in space, the only location of interest in this system; old, known for its casinos. It was an interesting place, Sider decided as he stared out the window, one that wasn't far at all from Hapes, from the planet he still called home even if he hadn't been there in fifteen years. He had the time, certainly; no one was expecting him back anytime soon, and it just came down to when he got tired of wandering the station or sitting in the hotel room he'd rented. He'd come out this way for a vacation of sorts, only to find out in the first few hours that the Sith had managed to wring the desire to relax out of him.

In light of that fact, the last two days had been long indeed. He'd tried anyway, just a few days of rest and recovery before getting back into things, time to lick his wounds after the light shredding a couple of hawk-bats and a lightsaber duel had given him on Kowak. It had ended up being two days of restlessly wandering corridors, of not sleeping enough simple thanks to some level of unfounded worry that the Sith would call him away from his little sojourn. Maybe what he needed was to spend less time reflecting and brooding and more time just doing things. He needed to be able to let his guard down.

Yes, that sounded like a good idea. Better than just wandering corridors, at least; he needed to spend more time being impulsive, less time being a brooding Sith. Sider moved to the small bed in one corner of the equally small hotel room, grabbing his favored synthleather jacket. He slipped the lightsabers he'd smuggled aboard into a pair of inside pockets, dropped his DeathHammer into its holster, fastened the jacket on his way out the door. He just needed to go and spend some money and pretend he was a normal spacer here on normal vacation; that was the solution, or close enough to one that Sider didn't care. It wasn't exactly purpose that filled Sider's footsteps, but it was close enough.

Of course, he still didn't know his way around the place. A datapad with a map loaded on it helped that issue a bit, but only if you could avoid running into someone while you looked down--which, it seemed, Sider couldn't. He almost dropped the datapad, almost fell himself. That bump was all it took for him to lapse and raise his guard again. She beat him to the punch, though - accused him of not watching where he was walking before he could return the favor.

Sider couldn't exactly deny that he hadn't been. Most days, he might have snapped back, maybe just done that Sith thing and used the Force to punish her more out of a sense of obligation than anything. Today, not so much. "Oh--my apologies, milady," he immediately replied, biting back the more aggressive retort he would have favored most days. One of these days he'd have to quit saying milady to every woman he met; but perhaps today they were close enough to Hapes that that particular habit born both of a Hapan upraising and Sith training might go mostly unacknowledged. "I was looking at my datapad and I guess I, uh, forgot to look up." Sider slipped the datapad in his pocket quickly, figuring if he was going to apologize he might as well stick to this impulsive, non-Sith thing and go all in. "Here, can I buy you a drink or something? It's the least I can do for running into you."

"Milady??"

Auren blinked, taken aback by the polite courtesy of the man she had walked slap-bang into while not paying the slightest bit of attention to where she was going. She had expected... well, she didn't know what she had expected. Maybe a fight? An argument, at least. That would have slotted in nicely with her slightly-hungover mood.

But no, it seemed that she had had the (good?) fortune to run into a somewhat old-fashioned gentleman. Auren didn't encounter those very often in her line of work, and, as such, was set slightly off-kilter. "Uuuuh... 'salright," she muttered, frowning slightly in confusion. "Easy done, 'specially if you don't know your way round this place." To anyone else, it would have sounded as though she were making a polite concession to the man, ensuring that his apology was unneeded. However, in reality, she was simply covering up her own guilt at not having been looking where she was headed, and then blaming someone else for the ensuing accident.

"Buy me a drink," she replied in surprise, shaking her head. "Damn, that has to be the best offer I've gotten on this godforsaken space station!" A genuine laugh bubbled up from her, one that was quite out of place with the "hardened spacer" veneer that she had plastered on since her arrival on The Wheel, but there nonetheless. "Okay, sure, that would be... nice. Your choice, though," she replied, mock seriously. "Only fair if you're the one doin' the payin'."

Sider gave the woman a small smile, mildly amused by the manner in which he'd seemed to throw her off. This, certainly, wasn't a position he often found himself in; he was usually the flustered one. Of course, it was always possible that being called milady might flatter or otherwise fluster women that weren't used to such titles, weren't nobles or Sith. Actually, now that he thought about it, that seemed pretty reasonable.

He laughed briefly at his own lack of knowledge, of experience where drinking was concerned. It had seemed the worldly, polite thing to do: much more in line with what a spacer would have done if he ran into someone, rather than the reaction of a Sith. Knowing how one should react didn't exactly give Sider detailed knowledge, not when he'd spent what he could remember in his life in luxury-free, spartan settings where he'd had to fight for his survival.

"You know," Sider replied after a moment, a hint of a smile tinting his words, "I really don't think I drink enough to let you trust me with that kind of decision." After all, the only drink he could actually remember consuming was a fogblaster; and he certainly wouldn't have wished that on anyone who didn't know what they were getting into. Big, strong, nasty taste; the kind of thing that knocked an unprepared soul down. "I've always had bad luck as far as picking drinks goes, at least." The lie rolled off his tongue smoothly, and Sider couldn't help but hate him for it. Such was the price of living incognito, however; when you didn't have experience that might have been called common, you had to make it up.

"I can pick cantinas alright, though," he added after another moment. At the very least, Sider had managed to find one relatively close by, a smaller place called the Delight's Respite wedged in between two larger casinos. He wasn't sure if it was a play on the need for losing gamblers to drink their sorrows away or what, but it certainly sounded like an interesting little joint. "Suppose we'd best find our way to one, shall we, Miss...?" he trailed off, asking for a name he hadn't caught in the initial chaos of running into the woman.

"Okay, what sorta spacer are you," Auren laughed, shaking her head so that her blonde hair bounced. "Most other spacers y'meet, especially out here, I swear they got Fozbeer - or somethin' stronger - runnin' through their veins!" It was true, too - a spacer who didn't drink was a rare thing indeed. It appeared to be something that was at the very heart of the spacer culture, and something to be enjoyed and celebrated, not something to be ignored.

"Hey, buddy, I never said I'd let you choose my drink," she warned with mock-sternness. "I'm perfectly capable of choosing my own drink. You go right ahead and choose a bar, or cantina or something - that honour is all yours." She grinned as he assured her that he had better luck with choosing places to drink than the actual drink itself. "Tell you what... how 'bout you let me choose your drink, see how that pans out?" So it was a light tease, and probably not even a completely genuine offer, but there it was nonetheless.

Auren arched an eyebrow upwards as the man fished for her name. "Donos. Auren Donos." She held out a hand for him to shake. "And what do they call you?"

Sider grinned. Well, at least she still thought he was a spacer. That was a good start. "I tend to drink too much and end up fighting someone when I drink alone," he said with a bit of a laugh. "It doesn't usually end well." He was getting pretty good at this partial lie thing, he had to admit; but to be fair, Sider hadn't been alone and the 'bar fight' had been more an instance of 'Sith killing everyone in a cantina having recently consumed drinks'. Not that she needed to know that, now or really ever. That would be Sider's little secret, as guilty as he felt about the whole fiasco.

Oh. Oh. So he had completely misunderstood her when she'd said it was his choice. Nothing new there. "My apologies," he offered with a bit of an apologetic smile. "That sounds like an excellent agreement, though. I always did like trying new things." As long as those new things weren't dangerous, of course, but drinking was relatively harmless in his eyes. Depending on your present company, of course, but Sider hadn't seen anything in her to indicate that she might have been willing to start killing a cantina full of people.

"Sider Rimora, at your service," he replied after only a moment's hesitation. The only people who would know his full name were Sith; anyone worth hiding his name from would likely have him pegged as Darth Anathis, but that didn't mean he wasn't somewhat concerned with being found and having to fight his way out of here just because he was careless. "Now, milady, about that drink..." Sider said, trailing off as he gestured towards the cantina. It was a pretty straight shot, only a couple of turns and a bit of a hike. "Shall we?"

"So what happens when you drink too much when you're not drinkin' alone," grinned Auren. "Or am I about to find out?" Sure, so she was teasing the other spacer - well, teasing bordering on flirting, really - but it was all harmless fun. And, the way that Auren saw it, you could never have enough fun in your life. Not that she hadn't been having fun while on the Wheel - far from it, in fact - but there was always room for a little more, especially when someone as easy on the eye as this guy was offered to buy you a drink.

Twice in twenty four hours, Donos... don't let anyone ever say you've not still got it.

"Okay, so 'trying new things' it is, then," Auren laughed. "But you're gonna have to tell me if you're a beer or a liquor kinda guy - after all, I don't wanna have t'be draggin' you on outta there when you land on your ass!" She'd lay a month's wages that a lightweight like he professed to be was a beer guy, pure and simple.

The momentary hesitation before the spacer gave his name went largely unnoticed, and Auren simply smiled and nodded as he gestured towards wherever he was taking her. "We shall," she replied, inclining her head in the direction he had gestured. Falling into step beside him, Auren cocked a glance at Sider. "So what brings you to the Wheel? I mean, it's hardly anyone's idea of a top vacation destination!"

Sider just gave her a laugh. "I honestly don't remember," he replied, a bit of an amused grin on his face. He had to admit, he was rather enjoying this whole pretending-not-to-be-Sith thing. It was certainly much more liberating, being able to let his guard down. Now all he had to do was work on his honesty. "Ought to be an experience for both of us, I think. And what of you, milady? What happens when you drink? I don't want to be walking into a nest of drunken gundarks, after all."

Beer or liquor? Beer or liquor... He'd never had the former, only tried the latter once or twice. Such was the curse of a halfway-sheltered life. "Let's go liquor," he said with another grin. "Just have to remind myself to take it slow, is all." He supposed tolerance would come in time, but that of course was as much a matter of drinking more frequently as it was waiting. "I can take care of myself, I promise. At least enough to stumble out of there," Sider added, more joking than anything. He really probably couldn't, but there was no reason to go ahead and admit as much. That just wasn't fun.

"Everything's a vacation when it's paid for by your employer," he offered with a smile. "I needed to blow off some steam after a job went, uh, wrong." Another bit of a smile, a bit of a shrug. What was on the up-and-up? Sider asked himself quickly. Bounty hunting, mercenary work? Smuggling? Fierfek, he didn't know. "The merc company I work for is usually pretty understanding about that kind of thing. You need a break, you get one before you crazy. Only thing I pay for around here is the gambling."

Well, it seemed pretty unlikely Auren would buy into that. Oh well; not much he could do at this point. This whole lying thing was weakening pretty quickly. "But, I digress. What brings you here, Auren? Anything exciting?"

Auren couldn't help but laugh. He had to be somewhere around her age, and yet had the air of a complete innocent. How the hell could anyone be a spacer, and yet retain that sort of demeanour? It simply didn't gel. Ah well, maybe he was the exception that proved the rule. "What happens when I drink," she chuckled, shaking her head. "Well, it'd appear that I talk to strange men in bars and corridors, then do the same again the next day when I'm painfully hungover." Not a lie, not quite the truth, but it'd do for now.

Auren looked almost stunned as Sider plumped for the hard stuff, and she raised an eyebrow at him, cocking her head to one side. "A lightweight, he says, and still he goes for the good stuff," she remarked, shrugging. "I can see I'm gonna have to be on the lookout for you tonight, aren't I?" Somehow, she couldn't see things ending well for Sider, if he was as unaccustomed to alcohol as he purported to be.

She arced a questioning eyebrow as he explained that he worked for a mercenary company, and she give him a quick once over. "Sounds like one helluva company to work for," she grinned. "But I gotta say... you don't look like any sorta merc I ever worked with." And she had worked with more than a few. They were, almost without exception, big, beefy types, whereas Sider looked as though he might break in a stiff breeze, at least in comparison to the man-mountains she was accustomed to working with. He wasn't hard on the eye, though, and she let her gaze linger for a second or two. Not bad at all.

"I'm here for a layover between jobs," she explained. "Freelance security, translation, negotiation... that sorta thing." Truth was, it was as much through boredom as anything else that she was sticking around.

Sider gave a good snort at the irony of Auren claiming she talked to strange men when drunk. Oh, she had no idea... It was probably a good thing he didn't have to give much thought to disguising the natural color of his eyes with the Force, nowadays - yellow eyes tended to be a dead giveaway about just how... strange Sider really could be. "Well, there are worse things, I suppose." He grew a bit more wistful as he thought about that cantina on Onderon again, still amazed that he could just destroy a place like that on a whim. The things the Force could do for him scared him sometimes... but now that he thought about it, at the same time, it had felt good.

They rounded a corner, only a hundred meters or so from the Delight's Respite, as Auren addressed him again. He started a bit at the stunned--almost incredulous--look on her face, thought about it and gave her a bit of a cheeky look by way of reply. "Well, if it's any consolation, you won't have to drag me far. We're just about there." Sider suddenly found himself half-tempted to drink himself under the table, just to see what Auren would actually do. That would have made things interesting, at the very least.

Well, there was an easy way to explain that Sider didn't look like much of a mercenary... or there was the lying, difficult way where he made something up on the spot and tried not to forget it later. No, he certainly didn't look like your average mercenary, but then who did? Huge, hulking guys who looked more like Wookiees without the hair than humans? "I get that a lot," he replied finally with a bit of a tentative smile. "I'm new on the job. Haven't gotten a chance to bulk up much."

"So whatever pays, right?" he said, finally coming to a stop in front of the Delight's Respite. Sider hadn't so much missed Auren's sizing him up nearly so much as he had missed the way she kept looking at him; such was his curse, that of naivete. "I know how that is." And, to be fair, he actually did - most of his late adolescence, before the Sith, had been that way: just doing whatever would bring the credits in. "So what about your last job? What was that like?" he asked, looking and pointing into the rather small cantina with a decidedly ladies-first kind of move as he spoke. It was almost surprisingly dark within, looked more like a nightclub than the cantina it was advertised as. Dark, flashing lights, bumping music. Oh, he was going to hate this.
